About the Work
A portrait of emergence, self-recognition, and the courage to be seen.
Now You See Me was my first human portrait — a charcoal and graphite piece that became far more than a technical study.
Until this work, I had built much of my confidence through animals: fur, texture, instinct, and layer upon layer of detail. Human portraiture asked for something different. It asked me to see through shadow, light, reflection, and the smallest imperfections that make a face feel alive.
As she developed, something shifted.
What began as a learning piece became proof that I could step into another kind of realism — one that was quieter, more vulnerable, and more exposed.
The title came to mean more than the portrait itself.
For much of my life, being seen did not feel safe. I learned early to stay hidden, to disappear into the background, to avoid taking up space. This piece holds the moment that began to change — the quiet recognition that visibility does not have to mean danger.
Her face is partly concealed, partly revealed. Shadow still remains, but she does not retreat from it.
She meets the viewer directly.
Not perfectly.
Not loudly.
But present.
Now You See Me is about the moment something hidden begins to step forward — not because it has become flawless, but because it is finally ready to be witnessed.
