This magnificent bear, emerging from the darkness, is meant to embody the struggles, trials and tribulations we all go thru. As he treads carefully into the light, he is finally revealing himself to the world, out of darkness, for all to see.

He emerged from the black in acrylics - my first animal in wet paint and my first hyperrealistic
painting in the medium. Three months of work, some lost to procrastination, most to the staggering
detail. The image of him stepping from darkness mirrored my own emergence into light, making him
as much a self-portrait as a bear... "Out of Darkness".
