He did not rush his arrival.
He came slowly — from silence, from shadow.
From the place we all go when we are becoming.
This is Out of Darkness — a hyperrealistic acrylic portrait of a grizzly bear mid-stride, his body still cloaked in black, but his face caught in the light.
The moment just before the roar. Just after the decision to rise.
He was my first animal I ever created in wet paint, either oils or acrylics.
My final step out of my previous career in construction and into art.
Three months of layering, pausing, doubting, and returning — until he finally looked back at me with a soul I recognized.
He was not done until I could feel him breathing.
Brushstroke by brushstroke, he became a mirror of my own emergence — deliberate, uncertain, but undeniable.
At first glance, he is still.
Look longer, and you feel what it took to reach this point:
The weight of all that was carried.
The quiet power of showing up anyway.
He is not posing.
He is becoming.
